Chelsea Vs Manchester United- Match Preview

Chelsea Vs Manchester United

Chelsea will be looking to close the gap on Tottenham and will feel they have a good chance to do so as they have the home advantage. The title is out of our reach so we are now looking to claim third or fourth spot. With Arsenal winning this afternoon, it makes the race for fourth even tenser.

Fernando Torres will feel he has something to prove; after scoring a sublime goal in the reverse game of this fixture, he went onto miss a clear open goal. This only heaped pressure on him to come good sooner rather than later. Fast forward a couple of months and Torres has only scored three goals since then, with only one coming in the Premier League against Swansea ( He later got sent off). Fernando knows that the club and its fans are fully behind him, but he also knows he hasn’t lived up to the hype that encouraged us to make a £50 million bid for him.

With Lindegaard injured; Alex Ferguson has a big choice to make; either to play the reserve team keeper Ben Amos in goal, or to stick with the very unconvincing David De Gea. Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney, Nani and Tom Cleverley are all set to be included in the Manchester United squad.

John Terry (Injured), Ashley Cole (Suspended), Didier Drogba (AFCON), Salomon Kalou (AFCON) are all out for this big fixture. Frank Lampard is rated as having a 50/50 chance of playing on Sunday. This leaves a question mark on who will play in the right back position during Ashley Cole’s absence. Will Jose Bosingwa switch wings? Or will AVB place his trust in youth and select Ryan Bertrand to make his first Premier League start?

Probable line-ups

Chelsea- Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, David Luiz, Bosingwa, Essien, Meireles, Malouda, Mata, Sturridge, Torres

Man Utd- De Gea, Evra, Ferdinand, Evans, Smalling, Park, Carrick, Nani, Young, Welbeck, Hernandez

United Game Key To Top Four Ambitions

From a neutrals perspective the game against Manchester United does not have its usual blockbuster billing, both Chelsea and United are playing some of the worst football they have played in years and this is not a shootout for the title.

However with an emphatic Arsenal victory against Blackburn today, the focus on our chances of finishing in the top four will be in focus at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Winter may finally arrived in England and unfortunately my views on our chances this season are equally bleak, unless AVB can get the players we have playing a quicker and more clinical brand of football in the final few months of the season.

A victory over Manchester United though would be a band aid that would instill some confidence and maintain a five point lead over Arsenal in fifth; a draw would not be the end of the world as the gap would be 3 points plus goal difference, which is in our favour.

Losing however is not really an option, It would increase the concerns around the club and sap already depleted confidence levels and the gap with Arsenal would be just two points or a bad weekend.

I am not confident but know that we can produce and will be getting behind the team from the Matthew Harding tomorrow.

Why John Terry Had To Be Dropped As England Captain

Carefree Wherever We May BeThere is uproar amongst many at the removal of John Terry as captain but the timing of the court case has forced the FA’s arm and sadly I believe that they had no choice.

John Terry has the support and backing of FamousCFC.com as Chelsea captain and we do not believe that he is a racist regardless of the outcome of the upcoming court case.

However as England captain he represents the nation, our ideals beyond those simply of football an England captain must be beyond repute acting as a role model and figurehead representing our country.

If a player has a reputation that is in dispute then an individual is not eligible for this position until this is resolved.

We have to accept that the charges against John Terry are very serious for such a public figure and have to be dealt with as such.

For the captaincy I believe that the precedence of innocent until proven guilty is not applicable, the mere implication in criminal proceedings (however bogus) makes him ineligible for the captaincy until they are resolved.

These are not easy things to write given my respect for John Terry and his position with the club but I would share this opinion about any player in these circumstances.

The timing of this all is deeply regrettable and I hope that you will join me in supporting John Terry at the Bridge on Sunday.

The Difference Between Foreign Chelsea Fans and Stamford Bridge Tourists

Quite rightly a lot has been made of the decline in atmosphere at Stamford Bridge in the last decade with our growing foreign fan base often cited as a culprit.

This is an unfair generalisation that is unfair on many of the foreign fans I have had the pleasure of meeting during my time writing about Chelsea.

It is important to remember that there is a difference between passionate foreign fans who view going to a Chelsea game as an exciting pilgrimage, and tourists who stumble upon Stamford Bridge as part of a package or activity to fill a dreary Wednesday evening in October.

Foreign Fans

The foreign FANs I have made the acquaintance of or befriended tend to be loud and proud when they visit Stamford Bridge often putting some mouse like regular visitors to the Bridge to shame when contributing to the atmosphere.

Whilst there are exceptions they tend to be more knowledgeable about the opposition as they watch as much football as they can often in countries where wall to wall Premier League coverage is provided.

Whilst they may not have been to as many games as UK members and season ticket holders it is my opinion that these fans should be welcomed to the Bridge and can add to the atmosphere.

Tourists

Then there are the tourists the scourge of football fans, the type that often are not even that interested in football that come out of curiosity or because their tour guide told them that they ‘simply must’.

They arrive late and leave early, asking stupid questions and contaminating their seat, no one wants to be sat within 50ft of a tourist.

These fans ruin the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge and should be discouraged; maybe we should ask questions at the turnstile as a condition of entry.

Actually on second thoughts that may not work, after several pints I am not sure I could hold up to a general knowledge test, but still as a club steps should be taken to encourage supporters rather than tourists.
