Daily CFC Blog-News Review – 25th Jan 2012
I was sorry to hear in the last couple of days that our record goal scorer Bobby Tambling is currently in hospital.
The 70 year old is reported to be suffering with a serious condition and we would like to wish our top scorer a speedy recovering as all Chelsea fans are pulling for you sir!
FamousCFC.com start the day by suggesting that anyone can become a professional footballer as long as they are happy with being Man City’s seventh choice left back.
With all the struggles and debates over our best formation ChelseaDaft cover this issue in depth, although CFC.Kris would like to see a 4-3-3 but only if we can get some pacy wingers in the style of Robben and Duff from the Mourinho era.
Also don’t forget that the Chelsea Football Fancast is out this week for two hours of Chelsea based discussion, ranting, singing and banter.
Transfer News
The mainstream media the BBC and several other sources are reporting that we have opened talks to sign Kevin De Bruyne from Genk with a range of possible options including a loan back being discussed. I think this would be a positive mood as the kid is obviously talented and we could bed him into the team after a full pre-season.

Why AVB Should Consider Champions League Cup Tied Players
Buying players in January is always fraught with issues and potential pitfalls such as having to pay an inflated price for a player due to the highly competitive, stressful nature of the transfer window and market forces.
However AVB has hinted that we would not buy players in this window that were cup tied for the Champions League and I would have to agree with Vital Chelsea that this does not make sense.
Whilst the Champions League is an important competition we only have a maximum of seven games to play in that whilst the FA Cup and League could number more than 20 fixtures.
Fixtures in which the right players bought in the window could be used to consolidate a Champions League position.
Therefore whilst inconvenient there is little sense in discounting a move for a player based on their Champions League availability unless the January supplement is too great to merit an immediate signing.
Club Statements On Signings
An interesting footnote to this is that the club has tried to be more upfront with the media and therefore fans about potential signings than in previous years responding to rumours where it feels appropriate.
In the case of Willian the information given by AVB that we would not be in for him due to him being cup tied was disproven by evidence of a bid being made just a few days later.
There are always several factors at play and maybe the club has decided that at a low enough price his lack of availability for the Champions League can be overcome.
The illusion of transparency may have been shattered but at least the club is still in the hunt for the next pieces of the AVB rebuilding job.

Frank Lampard To Manchester United? – Outrageous Transfer Rumour Rubbished By Fergie!
It is impossible to comprehend how stupid that title is, however one of the rumours that has started is that our talisman of more than a decade may be a Manchester United target.
This rumour seems preposterous and desperate journalism but a national newspaper has run with it anyway, the Daily Mail is reporting that
“Sir Alex Ferguson is considering a sensational move for unsettled Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard”
I would not panic thou, the article is pure speculation with no sources or basis in reality that I can make out and Sir Alex himself has come out to rubbish them.
“Do you really think Chelsea would sell to United in January? There’s no foundation in that,” Ferguson said. “Chelsea want to do something in the second half of the season so they want to keep their best players.”
This shows that this was speculative journalism at its best, the author has linked the fact that Manchester United are short in midfield and that Frank is unsettled at Chelsea to try and conjure a story.
The closest that the article comes to a source is that in 2005 Sir Alex said some nice things about Lampard to the media.
Whilst I never rule anything out totally, this is by far the most outrageous rumour I have heard in the transfer window.
When your source is seven years old you really are clutching at straws.
It really is transfer silly season.

One Chelsea Fans January 2012 Transfer Wishlist

Chelsea target Alvaro Pereira
In this article I’ll suggest some players for the January transfer window to strengthen our team.
Here is the wishlist of @Yahellarock on Twitter
Gary Cahill
We have to be realistic and John Terry won’t be around forever.
England international Gary Cahill would give us a no-nonsense defensive approach, which we are sorely missing.
Having played alongside Terry in the national team they could be a dream combination and solve a defensive problem.
lvaro Pereira
I think Ashley Cole needs competition for the left-back position and Uruguayan international Pereira is the man to provide it.
AVB knows him well from Porto, too and although we have Ryan Bertrand I would rather we strengthen our team as we need players who have experience. Bertrand is still young and he has a lot to show, but it’s not the right time to show it with the first team.
Ashley Cole is our first choice in the left-back position, but sometimes he will get injured or need resting and no one can replace him except Pereira.
Chiek Tiote
Chelsea used to boss games in the midfield, but no longer is happening now.
ChiekTiote is the kind of midfield enforcer AVB could do with in the physical world of the Premier League.
Everyone knows that Essien can do this job but he is struggling to stay fit and is not quite the same after some very serious injuries.
Tiote has been a revelation at Newcastle, and he’s the type of player that we need in midfield.
Moutinho
Andre Villas Boas knows all about his former player Moutinho is capable of and would no doubt love to be able to call upon him as he attempts to refine Chelsea’s attacking play. Moutinho is another choice for our midfield, he would be a great addition for the team and he’s still young.
Thomas Muller
Thomas Müller is exactly the type of mobile, hard-working, dangerous midfielder that Chelsea need to haul them back into Premier League contention, not to mention aid our chances in the Champions League.
Muller if he came to Chelsea, he’ll play the role that Steven Gerrard did at Liverpool for Fernando Torres. I think he could revitalise Torres and get him back on the right track.
Many will think these transfer are impossible and maybe they are but this is my wishlist.
In my opinion if we bought these players in January our squad will be one of the strongest squads in Europe.
After January we can still fight for the Premier League trophy and the Champion’s league one, but with our current formation and squad, we would win nothing.

January 2012 Transfer Window Build Up
During late December and January there is endless media transfer speculation, some of it is well sourced and accurate, whereas other stories are based on little more than rumour and fan wish lists bundled into fanciful articles or hearsay and conjecture.
The unnamed source is the cornerstone of journalism with plenty of breaking stories made possible this way, however it is also the purge of the headline desperate muck peddlers who hide behind this to imagine any story that they think will attract readers.
Well courtesy of footballtransferleague.co.uk here are the players we have been linked to
They also tell us how accurate the English media is with its stories as you can see most of the prolific websites have a success rate of about 1 in 5 which is hardly inspiring.
Predictably the Guardian scored ok,ut TalkSport clock in quite badly with 0 correct stories out of 33.
